As we approach the holiday season and participate in the global movement of Giving Tuesday, we look back at 2015 and the accomplishments the Federation for Community Schools has made to ensure our work in Illinois remains strong.

We have seen greater involvement in both our professional development and advocacy programs; and as a state-network, our membership has grown to include community schools in over 16 regions from southern to northern Illinois. Today, we are 1,400+ community schools members strong...and growing!
This year, hundreds of our community school partners were at risk of losing funding to operate as Governor Rauner made cuts to vital services that support our programs. To add to the crisis, our Legislators have yet to release a state budget for FY16 – creating uncertainty for many community schools in Illinois. In response to these budget constraints in Springfield, the Federation launched Many Challenges, Take One Action Campaign to encourage our members to advocate for community schools using social media, and to urge legislators to secure funding to maintain our programs and services that are essential to the to hundreds of community schools that operate in Illinois. Our Virtual Advocacy Campaign was a great victory for us and the youth and families we serve, but the fight continues as we move towards 2016 without a budget to sustain our collective efforts.
Under our Professional Development Programs, we served more than 650 individuals through our 20 opportunities designed to challenge our members and foster successful community schools in their neighborhoods. From our Community Schools 101 sessions to our Annual Community Schools Forum in November, our Professional Development Program is critical in directly preparing individuals to work in community schools.

The Federation's work would not be possible without your support; please consider a donation of $10, or any amount, to help us continue this important work on behalf of community schools. Together, we can support successful schools and vibrant communities. Be part of something BIG on this #GivingTuesday!
